About
My name is Teehon Tchesnokov.
I want to study and pursue a career in Art & design because it has simply always been the most important activity to me. I think this is because of two main reasons. One, I am fascinated by looking at the world around me, having ideas and creating art from this. Two, I love to be constantly stimulated, challenged and creatively interested in what I am doing. Only Art & Design allows me to do this so completely. I also like to be really involved in something that I can control and develop intensively until it is finished. I like the challenge of developing skills, understanding and creating my own ideas. I can express myself in art in a way that you can’t by just talking about things. I think this is why Art and creativity is powerful. It takes real commitment, but is open to everyone if they want to be creative and really push themselves.
When I was in Middle school I managed to pick up some special awards, including winning the Artist of the Year Prize in year 4. A year later I was Highly commended for a portrait painting of Queen Elizabeth. A year later I was Highly Commended when I took part in a Competition on the theme of “Global Warming”. This showed me that Art can be used to explore different ideas and be relevant in many different ways. The most important thing about my GCSE and A-Level Art & design studies is that I have learnt how to develop a broad range of techniques and skills, and develop my own personal projects. I particularly enjoy using a variety of techniques and processes, including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, digital software. I think it is important to be able to use both traditional techniques and processes, and reprographic and digital processes skilfully and creatively.
In my Art and Graphics A-Level studies Hiyao Miyazaki, a Japanese Animator and artist of the “Ghibli Design Company, has inspired me. His style combines soft and painterly backgrounds with more simplified, yet expressive characters, that fits the narrative and mood of the animations he has created characters for perfectly. Nikolai Senin is an illustrator that has also influenced me. He is able to convey complex, emotive messages, often using basic shapes and just a handful of colours. Only a few artists are able to do this. I am also influenced by Eiichiro Oda who is a Japanese manga artist, best known for his series “One Piece”, is one of the best-selling comic series of all time, because style and use of colour is bold and unique. I am really interested in Asian Art and Design, and was lucky enough to visit Japan this summer. Their whole tradition is a celebration of craft and design, mostly focused on a celebration of nature. It was not only enjoyable but a real learning opportunity because I was able to see examples of Japanese art, craft and architecture in the place where it was made. You can learn so much about the world, people and a culture when you travel. This trip really influenced me and has helped me with my personal art project, as I was able to see examples of beautiful painting and illustration, especially the special techniques and stylised quality of Japanese traditional and contemporary culture.
I am a completely committed and hard-working young person whose ambition is to be an artist. I want to train at a professional College that has excellent facilities and resources so that I can keep developing my skills and creative abilities, and work towards a career in Graphics, Illustration and Animation.
